Ryan: One Month

Sleep
He is a good sleeper!  If he didn't eat all the time, it'd be even better! :)  At night he sleeps well - and will go about 4-5 hours during his long stretch between feedings.  He can sleep just about anywhere - on my chest, in his carseat, in the swing, in the Boppy pillow, in the rock and play sleeper...thank goodness!
Eating
He is a machine!  During the day he eats every 2-2.5 hours and then will go anywhere between 3-5 hours at night.  He is eating 10 times a day now (much better than the 12 times a day when we first came home from the hospital).  He has had a bottle and does really well with that (yay!) and has taken 3 ounces with no problem.  In fact, he may be ready to try 3.5 ounces!
Weight
No new "official" amount, but I weighed with and without him and he was 8.8 pounds - which is about 8 lbs, 13 oz!
Length
Again, no official amount here either.  His clothes are starting to feel too short, so there is no doubt he is growing lengthwise as well!
Size Clothes
Newborn - though I bet we size up to 3 month things before too long!
Size Diapers
We are still in newborn size - Huggies and Honest Co fit better...the Pampers must run a little smaller!
Hair color
What hair? :) He does have some teeny fuzz and it seems to change color!  Sometimes it looks blonde - other times brown...and even sometimes it looks reddish!
Eye color
His eyes were almost navy at birth, but they are starting to lighten up some!  I can't wait to see what color they end up being!
Nicknames
He already has a few of these! :)  When he wakes up and stretches, he makes a goat noise.  Like exactly like a goat.  So we call him goatboy.  He is also pretty gassy (thank goodness he can get it all out!), so we call him HWC - Human Whoopee Cushion! :)  And Little Dude.  And Doodlebop.  And Rhino.  And of course The Roc. He probably has the most nicknames out of all of us!
Looking Like
I'm not really sure here!  He has his own look - though he has times where he resembles Jack as a newborn a lot.  It will be interesting to see what features he has similar to Jack and even Katie.
Favorite toy
He loves the swing! He also likes to sit in the rock and play sleeper and look out the window in the mornings.  He does use a pacifier though he doesn't absolutely have to have it.  I think he is still on the fence on whether he likes it or not.
Firsts
Everything!  With it being his first year of life, everything is first!  His first trip to the pediatrician.
  His first trip to Target.
His first time going with us to a restaurant - Gigi's Cupcakes to reward Katie for doing a great job at dropoff at preschool.
His first sponge bath at home.

And he used the playmat for the first time!

And his first holiday (4th of July)!
First walk.
Milestones
There's nothing like those first baby smiles.  It seems Ryan started smiling as he was falling asleep while we were still in the hospital!  And right around the day he was one month old, he smiled in reaction to me singing - Jesus Loves Me and You Are My Sunshine.
He also has incredible neck strength - he was attempting to hold his head up (not for long, obviously) in the hospital - and obviously it has just continued to strengthen.  He follows our voices and tracks things with his eyes.
Anything else?
What a sweet, sweet baby.  Thank goodness - I really don't think a third child has a choice!  He goes with the flow and is a good sleeper.  He does eat often, but when he is supposed to sleep, he does!  He has more awake and alert periods during the day - at breakfast, lunch, and dinner time for sure.  He does not like to be cold at all.  And he is not a fan of the sponge bath.  The umbilical cord stump just fell off the day before he was one month - he still has just had sponge baths (we need to get the baby bathtub out and clean it).  I look forward to seeing if he enjoys kicking and splashing in the tub.  He doesn't cry much - he just grunts and makes goat noises.  He also loves his Sissy - she sings to him and he just loves it.  And I know I already said it - but boy do I love those baby smiles and sweet coos and squeaks.  And he tadpole kicks like Katie did as a baby - like he is trying to make a point! So funny. He is also SUPER ticklish - especially right under his collarbone on both sides! He is also already pulling my hair - I didn't think that started yet..? Looks like my hair will be pulled back for the next few months!

Ryan's Nursery Reveal

We have had Ryan's room finished for quite some time - but I didn't get around to taking pictures of it before he was born (especially since he came a little early)!  So a couple of weeks ago, I got a chance to get a few pictures.  And I am finally posting them!

Katie moved into what used to be the guest room so that she has her own space (including her own bathroom).  And then her old room turned into Ryan's room - that way the boys can share a bathroom (stinky, messy boys).  We made sure we found bedding that coordinated with the color that it already was - that way painting didn't have to happen in there (aside from some touchups)!

This is what the view is as you walk into the room!
I love this that we have hanging as you walk in.  It was the first thing I bought for the nursery once we found out we were expecting a baby boy!
And you turn to walk in and see this...
And the view as you continue in!
Love this!  The dresser, hutch, and crib.  And we have that shelf at the end of the crib for the sound machine and camera.
All three kiddos have had their names over their cribs.  I think it has really helped teach spelling their name (at least for Katie and Jack), and I am sure it will for Ryan as well.
And the inside of the crib - bedding and all!  And a few cute buddies!
And the corner with the shelves!
Here is the dresser and hutch with books and stuffed animals and some cute quotes and bookends and ultrasound picture.  And the name banner is from the baby shower Brad's work had for us!
Next to the dresser is an area for the big kids to hang out if I have to sit in there to feed Ryan.  They can sit there to look at books or play with toys - perfection!  And that is the quilt that came with the bedding!
And then the corner where the glider and bookcase to house books and toys!  I love that little corner!
The pillows in the glider...love that lion pillow I found at TJ Maxx!  And the prayer pillow was in Jack's nursery in the glider!
Here's a closer look at the bookcase - I just love it!  I got that picture hanging on the wall for $10 from a local Buy, Sell, Trade page!  And I love the lamp - great for reading books and snuggling to sleep!
Here is a view from the reading corner!
And a canvas that goes along with the safari theme - and being perfect for a boy's room....no more monkeys jumping on the bed!
Here is a picture of the sink part of Ryan's room!  I love that elephant rug - I got that and the elephant basket next to the glider from a friend and they work perfectly!  The boys share the same tub and toilet but each have their own sink area.
And here are some of the cute details!  His name, loveys, banner, and door hanger on his closet door!
I love how his room turned out!  He is sleeping in our room still so we aren't in there much at all these days.  But once we are, it has everything we will need!

Fun With Friends

The last weekend in June, we had lots of visitors swing by - it was so great!  That Friday night, we had dinner with Brad's family and they came over to visit some more.  And then on the Saturday, my mom and brother came by (that was when Will got to hold Ryan)!  And then Sunday, we had some more visitors!

Meghan, one of my good friends from high school, was in town for the weekend and came by the house!  She met Katie a while back, so she got to see how grown up she is, as well as meet Jack and Ryan!  Here she is with Ryan :)
And Tanja and Nick came over then as well - here are the girls!  Good gracious - I really need to throw some makeup on or something!  It is always so fun hanging out together - even if it is for a short visit!
And Nick got to hang out with Ryan some too!  Both of their expressions are hilarious here!

A little later in the day, Christie came over and brought us dinner.  We have had some amazing meals from friends - it has been absolutely amazing to not have to worry about dinner basically at all between the day the meal is brought and then having leftovers!

Here is Christie with Ryan :)  So sweet!
And then it was time for some relaxing after one of Ryan's TEN feedings.  Sheesh.  He's an eating machine!  But if I can get these snuggles in, that makes it all worth it.  This stage flies by, so I am trying to soak up every single minute of it!
And he must have been worn out - he zonked out all stretched out!  So funny.
And he got a bath that night!  Nothing like a clean baby...especially when his little hair sticks straight out :)
I love taking pictures of Ryan in the rock and play sleeper - it shows how much he is growing!  And  there really isn't much better than a sleeping baby.  So amazingly serene and adorable.
While the big kids were at school, Ryan and I went to visit Cat, Tyler, and Carter (Ryan's girlfriend)!  It was great to visit and get to hold that sweet girl.  And of course we had to have a little photo shoot of the two cuties.
I love that Carter was holding onto Ryan's arm!  It looked like he was escorting her out!
This may be my favorite.  Sweet, sweet babies.  It will be so much fun for them to grow up and play together!
More posts to come - I really am working on catching up!  I haven't uploaded pictures in a while, so I am still working with pictures from last week now.  I can't wait to see pictures from this past weekend - red, white, + blue...and lots of summer fun with friends!

Hanging With Uncle Will

Last weekend, my mom and brother came over for a visit and to deliver a few gifts (Jack's present from both of them, a gift for Ryan from a family friend, and Brad's Father's Day goody)!  Uncle Will also got a chance to use the sling and hold Ryan too!  Ryan was so comfy in the sling - he actually fell asleep!  It was so sweet.

Here they are - I love how Will was watching him just about the whole time!
See?  He was still checking him out!  And Ryan was just snoozing away!
That visit must have really worn the little guy out - he slept a lot that afternoon!
He is growing and changing so much!  All of this eating really is making a difference :) He is still eating 10 times per day.  Whew!  It is about every 2 hours during the day and then at night he will go slightly longer stretches (thankfully)!  Hard to believe he will be one month old on Tuesday!  Slow down time - except please let him sleep through the night sooner rather than later :)

The Dudes

Last week, while Katie was at camp one day, we got brave and let Jack hold Ryan.  It was so sweet to see how Jack interacts with the little guy.  He tries very hard to be gentle :)

Look at those two cuties!  Doesn't Jack look like the most proud big brother ever?  And I think Ryan looks slightly scared - what do you think? ha!
And Jack loves giving Ryan gentle kisses on the head.
After that, Jack got super excited to watch our yard guy cut our grass!  I think he would have stayed perched there for quite some time - if he had the attention span :)
It will be so much fun to see these boys grow up and be best friends!  I can't wait to watch it all unfold!

The Two Week Appointment

I do love doctor's appointments when shots are not involved.  And unfortunately, the next one for Little Mister does involve shots.  But for now, let's talk about how great his two week check up went!  It was actually at 2 weeks, 3 days, but it was still a good one!

By two weeks, wee ones are supposed to be back at birth weight.  Well, this feeding every two hours is definitely paying off - Ryan weighed in at a whopping 7 pounds, 5 ounces! Yay!  And he measured 20 inches long - he grew almost an entire inch in just that amount of time...pretty amazing to me!
So rather than needing to eat 12 times a day (whew!), he is now down to about 10 times a day.  And let me tell you...that is still a.lot.  This past weekend - both Friday and Saturday nights, he went 5 hours between feedings (which also allowed me to pump for the first time) and I got excited.  Well...let's just say it is not a trend!  He is still eating about every 2.5-4 hours at night (he is waking up on his own hungry) and every 2-2.5 hours during the day.  By 2 months, he should be down to 7-8 feedings per day - woohoo! :)  But for now, we've got to make sure that boy continues to grow!

And just because it is cute of both of them, here is a picture of Ryan and Tanja on one of her visits!
Stay tuned for a post on my first day flying solo with three kids, the nursery, Katie's room, Jack's room, and a few 4th of July decorations!!

In other news, GO USA!  Big soccer game this afternoon! I BELIEVE THAT WE WILL WIN!
